Dr. Stan Kovtun
Dr. Stan Kovtun graduated with honors from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. Before this, he received his bachelor’s degree in biology from UMass Boston. From a young age, Dr. Kovtun knew his career ambition was to become a dentist. He is passionate about precise dentistry and helping others achieve optimal dental health and wellness. Dr. Kovtun enjoys using the advanced equipment available in his practice.
He is proud to offer a wide range of unique technologies at Alpha Plus Dental Center, including:
- Invisalign clear aligner tray therapy
- Laser devices for root canal infections, gum, and teeth treatments
- Tooth-colored restorations and aesthetic enhancements
- Mercury-safe protocols for replacing failing metal fillings
Recently, Dr. Kovtun trained in phlebotomy and PRF (Platelet-Rich Fibrin) procedures, which use the patient’s blood to decrease healing time and post-operative discomfort after surgical procedures. He has made two mission trips to the Dominican Republic, where he gained extensive experience performing significant bone grafting/augmentation procedures, including sinus lifts and implant placements. These mission trips helped Dr. Kovtun acquire valuable surgical training and significantly increased access to dental care for the local population, many of whom suffer from tooth loss and gum disease.
Dr. Avi Y. Shainhouse
Dr. Avi Y. Shainhouse is our periodontist, providing periodontal and surgical implant therapy at Alpha Plus Dental. Born in Toronto, Canada, Dr. Shainhouse received his dental degree from the University of Western Ontario. After graduation, he moved to Massachusetts, where he completed an advanced degree in general dentistry in Boston. He then pursued further education in periodontics and implant dentistry, receiving a specialist degree from New York University. With over 15 years of practice, Dr. Shainhouse is board-certified in both Canada and the United States. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontics and a Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada. He is also an active member of the American Academy of Periodontology.
In his spare time, Dr. Shainhouse enjoys playing hockey, biking, and swimming. He loves exploring New England with his family throughout all four seasons. A dedicated sports fan, Dr. Shainhouse loyally supports all Toronto sports teams, particularly enduring the long-standing plight of the 1967 Stanley Cup Champion Toronto Maple Leafs alongside his fellow Torontonians.
Angela – Dental Assistant
Angela, our dedicated dental assistant, plays a crucial role in patient care. She says, “One of the biggest inspirations in my life was my parents, two wonderful, hardworking, generous, intelligent, lovely people. They taught me to have these same traits, to be kind-hearted and caring with everyone. It’s my biggest privilege to help people. That’s why I chose this profession, and I love it.
